About Jeff Corbett

Back in 1998 I was a fledgling noob ‘real estate entrepreneur’ dealing with independent real estate, mortgage and contractor professionals in order to turn over my meager real estate portfolio for what some might call a profit.  In my humble opinion, these service providers were on the wrong side of the cost vs value curve, so I decided to start- A mortgage brokerage, a real estate brokerage and a construction firm…on top of the existing property investment business.  Yes, it was as crazy-sexy-cool-stupid as it sounds.

My goal was to ’shake things up’ from the inside, and by example.  Well that got me in trouble with my new peers and competition who didn’t appreciate the way I marketed my business in reflection to the industry status-quo at the time.  It got them so upset that I just knew the education and transparent look I gave my consumers was bigger than originating loans or showing homes.  So, I closed/sold my companies and started pursuing an idea around ‘transparent mortgage qualification’ based on a Customer to Business model in Jan. 2006 and launched this thing called a ‘blog’ in August of 2006 to shamelessly self promote my perceived skills.  The XBroker is what I named it…like Ex-Broker, as in Ex-Mortgage Broker, Ex-Real Estate…you get it.

Guilty- Opinionated, purposefully provocative and raw.  Since I’ve practiced what I preach, my approach to these industries comes with experience, the insight that which provides and an authenticity that wont be compromised…or what I like to call- Radical Transparency (oooooh).

This has lead to 2 real estate and mortgage tech related start-ups, a very important job at the worlds largest social network for real estate professionals (ActiveRain), a Partner in the prestigious consulting firm of 7DS Associates, and now as a freelance consultant…master of my own domain.

What can I do for you?

First, I’m one of those people who can only do what they truly enjoy.  Second, I truly enjoy solving problems.  Third, I enjoy and am thus good at solving problems with a creative mindset that involve:

  • Productization
  • New revenue creation
  • Interactive messaging/marketing/sales campaigns
  • Content management strategies
  • Early stage Mergers and Acquisition arbitrator
  • Forming technology strategies designed to meaningfully increase the effectiveness within a business.

Don’t do Branding, SEO and I’m not the implementation guy but know people who are really good at such.  Titles are limiting but the term Executive Entrepreneur seems a fitting and succinct description for what I ‘do’.  If you’re still confused, contact me and we can talk about what exactly it is you need and we’ll see if my DNA is suitable for donation.  If not, I can probably point you in the right direction.

My semi-interesting bio also includes speaking gigs at events like Inman Connect, RETech South, REBar Camps as well as the occasional radio and TV interview.  If you would like me to speak at an event of yours, I promise to be wildly entertaining and reasonably insightful.

For whatever its worth- I attended Syracuse University and Barton College studying cellular biology and psychology.  I do nothing with this expensive knowledge except answer relative trivia, score big on scrabble and read the occasional medical journal.

Currently residing in Charlotte NC after growing up in Buffalo NY and stints in Dallas TX, Irvine CA and Seattle WA.
