Just quickly,
Do you guys think we will follow suit (we do in most other industries) and be forced into an MLS and open listing type culture?
Admittedly, I always train my guys to exclusively list but to allow any agents to introduce buyers and conjunct 50/50 but with just us running the negotiations on behalf of the sellers.
Your thoughts for us down under appreciated?

Good article, and most things are relevant even down here is real estate in Brisbane Australia. (with the exception of the open listing thing, we're still able to get primarily exclusives and not alienate ourselves from the buyers).
I agree with the attitude to run with. The agents who hide their listings from each other, and run with a scarcity mentality end up earning not much more than a McDonalds cashier, whereas the ones with an abundance and giving mentality earn hundreds of thousands a year.
Love it, and keep it up,

Although I agree with most of what you are saying here I do have some issue with complete disregard for SEO. I think its like running a company without a marketing plan. Sure you might be able to do it through word of mouth but why not be aware of what helps.

I am in no way saying go overboard. Ironically usually the best way to achieve a good SEO is by not trying. Anyone trying to trick or deceive search engines and readers should be banned. In one of your other articles, picking the proper names of your business or article can make a difference in getting a mortgage, it can also make a difference in getting a potential client.

Content is and hopefully will always be King, knowing how to market it doesn’t hurt.

Picture on the blog - Guilty as charged. I am kicking around the idea of 86ing the pic from our stuff, but I will say that it makes me crazy when I have to go on a scavenger hunt to find contact information or to even find out a little about the author of a site. That much should be so front and center that it hits you upside the head, IMO. Otherwise, what's the point?

Thank you for the vote of confidence, X-Man, despite my photo faux pas. Jay - Call me a diva again, and there will be hell to pay. :)

Great article. I do have to disagree however with taking your photo off of the first page of your website/business card. People want to know who they are dealing with; although it is important to keep it up-to-date and real. 30 year old photos of oneself is a major error. When agents don't have a photo, the click thru rate would be higher since they are looking for their photo!

Fabulous article Mr. Corbett! Thanks for the mention, and being put in the same category with those two Diva's of real estate is an honor.

Regarding SEO, I had a lengthy conversation with a wanna-be blogger a couple of days ago. They had been reading up on things like H1 tags, keyword density, etc. In fact, they told me, "Your keyword density is below recommended guidelines".

My response was, "Huh. I don't know what my 'keyword density' is, nor what the 'guidelines' are. And I don't really care." My "SEO philosophy" is pretty simple -- write for the readers. Those nerds at Google are pretty damn smart. Somehow, despite sub-standard keyword density, they seem to figure out what the blog is about...
